HISTORY OF THE ICEWORKS
All buildings apart from the mill were demolished and reconstructed as near as possible on the same footprint as the existing buildings.
Materials were sourced to be in keeping with the mill building.
Bricks were manufactured by Furness Brick in Cumbria who use the same kilns as used in the Victorian era and were matched to mirror the mill. These bricks are known as "The Iceworks Blend".
Throughout the project the ethos has been sustainability as practically possible, hence installing ground source heat rather than gas or electricity forms of heating.
Local firms have been used for material supply.
Trades People are mainly local, including our two apprentices who are both keen, conscientious and fortunate to learn their skills not only in new constuction, but in learning the skills to restore the historic mill building.
We are not mainstream developers, but local to St John's who have a shared purpose to regenerate this site.
